<image:title>Lean on Us (2021) - Our 2021 Conference Theme: Lean On Us: Strength in Community</image:title>
<image:caption>This year, we all have witnessed many life-changing and historic movements made in history. That is why the Midwest Chinese American Student Association has decided that the theme for the third Annual Conference will be finding Strength in Community. Amidst a pandemic, People of Color (POC) witnessed the importance of supporting one another more than ever. With so many unanswered questions, we find comfort in our family and friends for support. We encourage the community to lean on one another in order to stand strongly together. We should actively be compromising, hearing, listening, respecting, and remembering history. We want to remind the community that you are never alone with whatever you are going through. You have a strong support system that you can depend on. Everyone undergoes different experiences, but these differences should never divide us; you are never alone. With this theme in mind, we implore you to remember the Strength in Community whether that be at school, in your student organizations, at home, work, etc.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The 2020 MCASA Conference really struck a note with me, because this was my first real experience meeting with many other Chinese Americans outside of my school, my state, and my own social circles. It was really great and empowering being able to share our backgrounds and our overlooked struggles as a Chinese American, and I appreciated the support we've given to each other as such. That is why I would like to be involved in this social group, and I hope to improve upon next and future MCASA conferences to provide an even better experience for our community!</image:caption>

<image:caption>I joined MCASA EC because it was a great way for me to connect with other Chinese organizations from around the Midwest. Attending MCASA conferences in the past has shown me how welcoming and open they are to their attendees and I want to give back to those who will be in the same boat. Before entering college, I never got the chance to learn about Chinese culture and traditions, so being on the EC of an organization that strives to celebrate our culture and spread awareness is something I am extremely proud to be apart of.</image:caption>

<image:caption>When I entered college, I heard about the amazing experiences that people had at other Asian targeted conferences, such as MAASU or VIA-1, but wanted one specifically for Chinese culture. When MCASA-to-be members reached out, I was happy to hear that other people/schools around the Midwest were interested in a similar idea. I was excited to help create a space for others to come together and share their experiences and how different organizations celebrated Chinese culture at their respective schools.</image:caption>

It was the first time all of EC was able to be together in person after countless video chats, and it was so rewarding to see all of our planning come to fruition. I got the opportunity to meet a lot of new people and really connect with them, and make new friends. I loved how the environment was super friendly and it really helped enrich the learning experience. As someone who cares a lot about advocacy, this environment made it very comfortable to talk to others about topics on social issues. I am super excited to be on Executive Committee and help continue to foster this safe and friendly environment.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My favorite memory was planning MCASA and bonding with the (2019-2020) executive committee in New York City. Being physically together has allowed us to solidify many conference ideas that would pan out 8-months later. Additionally, it allowed us to view each other as friends rather than strangers which made conference planning a lot easier online. Through sheer team work, our committee made an amazing 2020 conference that would remain in my heart and memory forever. <3</image:caption>

<image:caption>My favorite MCASA experience had to be when I had attended the first ever MCASA. Although I wasn’t on board at the time, it was super exciting to see my President achieving her goal and to see so many other groups of students around the Midwest striving for that same thing. A community of Chinese American students who aren’t bound by our borders. Sharing similar experiences and listening to new ones. Nearing the end of the conference we goofed around a lot just because we were exhausted, but we definitely got a lot closer because of that more than anything else. Oh and also carrying a 6 foot 4 inch man on my shoulders was pretty exciting.</image:caption>

It was the first time all of EC was able to be together in person after countless video chats, and it was so rewarding to see all of our planning come to fruition. When MCASA-to-be members reached out, I was happy to hear that other people/schools around the Midwest were interested in a similar idea. I was excited to help create a space for others to come together and share their experiences and how different organizations celebrated Chinese culture at their respective schools.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I joined the board of University of Michigan's Chinese Student Association (CSA) during my freshman year. Through CSA, I was able to meet so many new people and to learn more about my identities. Since CSA had impacted me so positively, I thought MCASA could have the same impact on others as well. In addition, many schools across the Midwest do not have Chinese or Chinese American student associations, so I wanted there to be a space for people who did not have one on their campus.</image:caption>

It was crazy to me that Chinese Americans did not already have a conference and unity. <image:caption>During my junior year of college, I felt like I had been a part of the UMN CASA community for a while. I noticed my friends in different boards would get really pumped up to go to a conference every year except CASA. I wanted us to connect with students across our state borders and well and wanted to create an opportunity to meet new people every year. I hoped that people didn't feel confined to their own college or even state. We can relate to each other whether you're from Minnesota or Kansas. I remember I was so excited that I started messaging CASAs around the midwest during downtime at work. It was amazing the amount of support and interest that came from the first message. I could tell that everyone had either thought about this before or have just been waiting for the right opportunity. This was something that would've happened eventually, but it just so happened to be the right time that year.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Winds of Change (2022) - Our 2022 Conference Theme: Winds of Change</image:title>
<image:caption>Our theme this year embodies the idea of adapting to new changes throughout uncertainty. The past several years have undoubtedly been stressful to everyone in some way, and the Covid-19 pandemic has essentially affected everyone to some degree in the past and the present, thus changing many plans and challenging what was once considered “normal.” As such, we felt this theme would be suitable for this year’s conference with the intentions of providing a support system for our Chinese American (and Asian American) community and to empower our attendees with engaging workshops and fun activities. With the theme in mind, we want to remind the community that you are never alone with whatever you are going through. Everyone undergoes different changes but these changes will never divide us. Winds of Change took place on Saturday, March 12th, and attracted over 70 attendees online.</image:caption>
